Costa Rica Cost Of Living Update: 12 Ounce Bottle of French’s Deli Mustard- $5
My husband went shopping today and returned with the fancy American brand mustard. We rarely indulge in such extravagance, instead buying the yellow Costa Rican kind when possible. It is a fraction of the price (with a fraction of the taste) but much more affordable.
Unfortunately, today the store was out of the cheap stuff so we had to break the bank and buy the high falutin kind.
If you are at my house and you catch me eyeing you as you squeeze a strip of mustard on your hot dog, just remember I’m on a fixed income.
So don’t go heavy on the mustard. $$$
I’m not a big fan of mustard, but my family is. I live in Canada where mustard is pretty cheap, but I still like making my own as it tastes better. It could be a good alternative for you!
That’s a great idea! Never thought of it.
YEs, that is true…
I actually don’t eat meat anymore, but beef is nasty in CR.
Also, sausage, bacon, and pepperoni just taste weird to me there,
Now chicken and fish in Costa Rica are amazing!
The cool thing is that the chicken are happy, free-range, and of course no nasty antibiotics or hormones, and they scratch around in amazing soil.. and the eggs are better too.
The beef is awful here. I stick with chicken, but that is expensive. So I use more veggies in my dishes and less meat. Which is a healthier thing to do anyway.
Hi,
I came across your site by way of one of your comments on the Huff Post. If my kids were grown I would have to give Costa Rica a shot. That hot dog is making me hungry.
Lol. Just don’t put too much mustard on it. You’ll go broke!
So if the mustard is very expensive what is the cost on the hot dogs and buns? What is the quality? Just curious
Any of the imports are really the biggest budget breaker. We usually buy the Costa Rican brand but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
The quality of meat is weird here. Hot dogs are okay. Beef in general is really bad. Very gamey. So we eat mostly chicken. I have to check on the cost of hot dogs, but if I remember, they are about the same as in the states. So is the local bread.
