Costa Rica Cost of Living Update: Moving van with crew-$300
It looks like we are moving to the beach. Time has come to investigate the possibilities of building a house…in a foreign country….with very little Spanish skills.
Building is rough on anyone but this recipe should even challenge my calm and mild mannered husband. He’s excited about the project; constantly sketching house designs with many green energy ideas. One of which is a waterless composting toilet.
Really honey…you had me at hello.
It’s going to be a bumpy ride partnered with an equally depleting bank account…and not one flush in sight.
I wonder where they found a vertical wind turbine. We have been looking for one.
No sure, but in our latest video, Nikko is planning on buying one for his sustainable hostel and permaculture project. He has so many great ideas, we should all try to implement some of them.

Awesome! We were in Flamingo recently and are going there for 6 months next January as a trial run for a possible move from Canada. The idea of building is very appealing as we didn’t see a single house that met all of our needs or design ideals.
One thing I noticed in Flamingo was a property that had a vertical wind turbine. It was windy all the time and a vertical wind turbine does not need to be positioned as high up as a traditional wind mill. You may want to check them out. Solar is also good but I’m sure he’s looking into that already. My neighbor has a composting toilet. It’s great unless you have a lot of people using it.
Looking forward to your future posts! Best of luck with the plans.
Should be quite the adventure especially if you sub out most of the work, remember those long siestas in the afternoon.
It’s going to get interesting. I’m still stuck on the fact that my husband is looking at a waterless composting toilet.
I’ll never look at a flushable one again without a sense of nostalgia.
Wow, you two are ambitious! It will be interesting reading about your progress.
I liked the beach areas better myself, better than say, Antenas, even through it’s supposed to have one of the best climates in the world, nothing beats swimming in 85 degree ocean water!
It should be fun doing all the water activites and scouting out new beaches. We love to ride the scooter and it will be fun investigating the new area.
